HE160133 Android OS Update from 4.4 to 5.1
Note - this update is only for the HE160133 Media Player sold via ALDI in March 2017 - earlier models are not supported with this update and doing such an update may Void your Warranty.
Please follow these steps to update your HE160133 Ultra HD Android Media Player to version 5.1 Android
This will allow you to run the latest versions of Apps such as KODI
You will need a USB Stick (Larger than 1GB) that has been formatted to FAT32 format
(Google "formatting a usb to fat32" if you are not sure how to do this)
STEP ONE. - Update 1
Follow the Link below to see the two updates

Place UPDATE 1 'Update.Zip' file on the Root Directory of the USB drive
Insert the USB drive into the HE160133 Media Player (USB1 Port Only)
You may need to wait some time after boot for the upgrade to run.
Follow the instructions on screen to update – these will come up automatically on the Media Player, otherwise reboot with USB in the Media Player
The Media Player will update its Operating System - once it reboots and completes this, remove the USB Stick.
STEP TWO. - Update 2
Delete the last step's Update.Zip file from your USB Stick
Place UPDATE 2 'Update.Zip' file on the Root Directory of the USB drive
Insert the USB drive into the HE160133 Media Player (USB1 Port Only)
You may need to wait some time after boot for the upgrade to run.
Follow the instructions on screen to update – these will come up automatically on the Media Player, otherwise reboot with USB in the Media Player
The Media Player will update its Operating System - once it reboots and completes this, remove the USB Stick.
STEP THREE - Perform Factory Reset & Reinstall KODI App
Go to Advanced Settings
- Go to Back Up & Reset
- Select Factory Data Reset (click SD Card) and perform reset
This will now complete the Update to Android 5.1 Operating System
- Reconnect your WiFi Again - enter your WiFi Password
- Connect to Google Play with Google Account again
- Uninstall V14 Kodi and then Install New V17.1 Kodi
Finally,
One problem after this update is that the virtual keyboard will be missing.
Steps to fix are:
- go to Settings - 'Language & Input'
- Select 'Current Keyboard' - 'Choose Keyboard'
- Turn on 'Google Pinyin Input', turn off 'Android Keyboard'
- Turn off 'Google Pinyin Input', turn on 'Android Keyboard'
